Questions

Question. How can I determine which form of literature struggling students prefer that will help them learn more in science?  (such as hard copy, digital, comic, fictional or nonfiction)

To assess  the student's comprehension of science using various literature formats, I first created a survey for students to fill out. This gave me some incite to their previous understanding of the course assignments  that they had learned using Amplify (the schools standard program for teaching the format of their in class readings)and  provided some knowledge of their gained understanding of the subject using other formats. This also told me which format the students prefer, how much they believed they learned using the various formats,  likes and dislikes using the various formats as well as direct me to other possible formats that may be of benefit. I will also verify thru my Cooperating Teacher  and upon their performance in class as to whether the additional literature formats actually helped or hinder these student in comprehending the subject and improving their grades. Their was unfortunately some bias to this because students will be continuing to use the Amplify program for their daily education but using the additional formats, I expect to see improvement in their comprehension and understanding of the subject.  The survey questions I expect will help reduce some of this bias because students will be identifying what format they feel they gathered more knowledge from, and I will see if there was improvement in the subject.
