Limited Resources
This lesson will introduce the unit. Students will watch the Prince Ea video about the use of fossil fuels and the effects it has to our world.
After watching, students will research and record their finding showing evidence if:

2. What current events support or disprove his claim?
3. Would eating only locally grown products help or harm the environment.
4. Would the eating of only locally grown products help or harm the economy.
Formative Assessment: Will be based on how well their evidence supports their claim.
This lesson will introduce young students to recycling. by having then watch or read in a literary circle group "Peppa pig's recycling fun!"
After students will discuss Recycling, Identify recyclable products, and come up with ways to recycle in the classroom (and carry over to home)
Students will then sort materials into their appropriate bins .
We will then learn how to recycle used water bottles or used milk containers as flower pots (may require prior preparation if cutting plastic) We will open the milk container, or cut the bottle in half, fill with potting soil leaving 1in from the top add seeds(class choose of what to grow) and water.
This lesson serves both literary social studies and science
Recycling Trash
This lesson shows students that ALL materials are recyclable in one way or another. It will be started early spring to avoid freezing. In this lesson Students will combine trash to make compost to use in a garden(another future project)A 5gal or larger bucket with threaded lid, will be stored outside with holes drilled in the lid and bottom to allow venting and drainage. Students will fill with trash(food scraps from breakfast, leaves, etc. on Fridays (so we can manage quantity and allow compost to work)NO plastics, glass or metals)leaving space on top (about 3in) so to allow mixing. We will roll the bucket to mix content. Water will be added to keep damp but not soaking. Students will/should wash hands after and avoid touching their face or mouth until washed. We will stop adding material a few weeks prior to use to reduse germs and ensure everything is composted.
Students will keep a journal identifying what was put in, when, and a estimate of how much the compost level has lowered prior to adding more and explain any changes they observe or we did to adjust.
